Watching and listening the Classical Dance and Music; the rhythmic action of craftsmen engrossed in the art of Sculpture, Painting and other creative work is very soothing for him.

From 1985 to 1991 he taught Maithili language and literature in GLA College, Daltonganj (Bihar). From March 1993 to February 2009, he contributed administrative / professional service in editorial department of National Book Trust, India. From February 2009 to May 2014, he worked as associated professor School of Translation Studies and Training, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. With collective effort of the colleagues, he contributed significantly as director of the School also to give a solid foundation to the school. At present he is a Professor in the Centre of Indian Languages; School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies; Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi-110067 (India).
